Daily or weekly planner: how to choose
If you write down most of your day, hour by hour, choose a daily planner. If you mostly need to see the shape of your week and jot down what matters, choose a weekly planner. Both work. The right one is the one you will open every morning.
Here is how we think about it, since we make both.
Which planner is better, daily or weekly?
Neither is better. They answer different questions. A daily planner asks what you are doing with each hour. A weekly planner asks what your week needs to look like. The planner that fits is the one that matches how you already think about your time.
Who is a daily planner for?
A daily planner gives every day its own page, so there is room for a schedule, your to-dos, and everything that does not fit neatly in a box. Our Daily Planner is built for people who want to organize a lot in one place: daily schedules, hourly planning, goals, budgeting, finances and monthly planning all live in the same book. The 2027 Daily (Spiral) Planner comes in 8 colors and measures 7 by 9 inches. If you want something lighter, the 2027 (Non-Spiral) Daily Planner has the same detail in a sleeker book.
If your days are full, your schedule changes hour to hour, or you like to write a little more than a line, a daily planner will feel roomy in a good way.
Who is a weekly planner for?
A weekly planner puts the whole week in front of you. You can see what is coming, spot the busy days, and plan your goals and schedule without turning a page. Our 2027 Weekly (Spiral) Planner keeps the same weekly layout our customers already love, in a full 7 by 9 inch size, with more room to plan your week, your goals and your everyday life. It comes in 2 colors.
If you would rather glance than write, or you already keep your hours somewhere else, a weekly planner keeps things light.
What about a smaller weekly planner?
Some people want the weekly layout in a book that goes everywhere. The 2027 Weekly (Mini) Planner is the compact version. It is 6.26 by 7.76 inches with 310 pages, and it has sections for personal planning, budgeting, travel, yearly goals, monthly organization and weekly planning. The 2027 Unisex Weekly (Mini) Planner has the same compact weekly layout with a neutral, minimalist look. Either one is a good second planner if you keep a bigger one at home.
Can I use both?
Yes, and plenty of people do. A common setup is a weekly planner for the big picture and a daily planner for the details. If that sounds like too much, start with one. You can always add the other next year.
How do I decide in five minutes?
Ask yourself three questions.
- Do I plan by the hour, or by the day? By the hour points to daily. By the day points to weekly.
- Do I like writing a lot, or a little? A lot points to daily. A little points to weekly.
- Will I carry it every day? If it has to fit in a bag, look at the mini weekly.
If your answers split, pick the one you were drawn to first. A planner you like looking at is a planner you will use. Still not sure? See the whole 2027 planner collection.
